Surfing coach to go bush for environment

He’s heading into the wild but a northern NSW surf coach is confident his story won’t end the same way as Alexander Supertramp’s fabled misadventure.

Lennox Heads resident Dave Sharp is preparing to spend up to 12 weeks alone in a 60 kilometre area of bush in a bid to raise awareness of polluted oceans and other environmental concerns.

The 32-year-old will begin his trek on July 1, taking with him his guitar and surfboard, but no food or water.

American Supertramp, whose real name was Chris McCandless, attempted a similar adventure in 1992 but was found dead five months after wandering into the Alaskan wilderness on a journey of self-discovery.

The story was made famous in the Hollywood movie Into the Wild but Mr Sharp says he’s confident he’s done enough to ensure his own bush adventure will have a much happier ending.
