NSW man dies after being stuck in freezer

WorkCover is investigating the death of a man in Sydney’s east who was trapped in a commercial freezer for up to an hour.

The 23-year-old man was working in a large commercial freezer in Matraville on a stand-up rider forklift on Saturday afternoon when he became wedged.
“Something happened and he became wedged between the forklift and part of the framework in the commercial freezer,” a police spokeswoman said.
He was last seen operating the forklift at 1.30pm on Saturday and was found injured at 2.45pm.
It’s unknown how long he was trapped, in temperatures as low as -19 degrees celsius.

He was conscious when police rescue arrived to release him.
He was taken to St George hospital where he died at 6.30 am on Sunday.
It’s currently not known how he was injured.
WorkCover is investigating the incident and a report on the as-yet unexplained death will be prepared for the coroner.
