Newman, LNP support surges in Newspoll

Popular support for Queensland’s Liberal National Party has surged, with voters also more satisfied with Premier Campbell Newman, a Newspoll has found.

The poll, published in The Australian on Saturday, found the LNP recorded a primary vote of 49 per cent between January and March, up seven percentage points from the previous quarter.

Labor, by contrast, dropped four points to 27 per cent of the primary vote.

At 62 per cent to 38 per cent, the LNP holds a 24-point lead over Labor on a two-party preferred basis, the poll found.

Mr Newman’s satisfaction level jumped five points to 43 per cent, while dissatisfaction with his performance dropped three points to 45 per cent.

Mr Newman leads Labor’s Annastacia Palaszczuk as preferred premier by 53 to 21 per cent, the poll found.
